Resumo: |
The present work deals with the inflection of the infinitive in the Brazilian Portuguese when considering the grammatical rule, its effective use and cultural interference. More specifically, it is assumed that, in the absence of a sufficiently clear rule, the speaker, especially the foreign student, needs to deal with the difficulty of understanding what the tendency of use would be. It is, therefore, a recurrent problem in the teaching of Portuguese Foreign Language (PLE), which challenges teachers and is a reason for recurring doubts on the part of students. Thus, the guiding questions of the present research are: Is it possible to establish rules for the use of the personal infinitive in optional cases, considering them cultural marks? In addition, do the proposals present in teaching materials of PLE meet the needs of learners, with regard to identifying the uses of the personal infinitive? In order to seek answers to these questions, we have, as a general objective, to verify what is relevant to the teaching of personal infinitive flexion and, thus, contribute to research in the area of PLE teaching. Regarding the specific objectives, we seek: a) to analyze the approaches of the uses of the inflected personal infinitive in the main grammars of BP; b) to analyze the approaches of the uses of the inflected personal infinitive in PLE textbooks, evaluating the syntactic contexts, with emphasis on cases in which it is optional; c) to verify what is relevant in the teaching of the personal infinitive, identifying eventual "tendencies of use", in which, being the inflection optional, there would not be a grammatical rule, but, rather, a cultural interference, which, in turn, does not make clear which aspects are relevant in the speaker's choice. To this end, the study is based on the linguistic functionalism of Givón (1993) and Halliday (2004) and, regarding the rules of use, the main Brazilian grammars are taken as a basis, namely: Bechara (2009), Cunha and Cintra (2016) Neves (2011), Koch and Vilela (2001), Perini (2010), Carvalho and Bagno (2023) and Castilho (2019). Regarding the methodology, the research is qualitative and focuses on the analysis of the cases presented in the grammar of Castilho (2019), in comparison with the proposals present in the textbook "Active Grammar", volumes 1 and 2. The results show that in the interaction I/you with speakers of similar social levels there is a "tendency to use" the personal infinitive and an alternation between the present subjunctive and the personal infinitive, but among speakers of different social levels the use of the present subjunctive is frequent. Regarding the optional cases of inflection, we observed that there is a tendency to flex the verb whenever it is necessary to indicate the subjects of the sentence |
