This investigation aims to study how the narrative expression in the novel Vermelho Amargo (2011), by Bartolomeu Campos de Queirós (1944-2012), constructs timespace beyond the red image, in the equation “ver + ver-me”. It stems from two hypotheses, the first assumes the narrative constitutes a medium of space-time reordering of memory in the present time, in which the red poetic signifier (adjective and noun) has the function of composing the methodological and aesthetic body of the narrative, and the second postulates the gaps established in the literary procedures devised in the novel mediate representations that are constructed from connections, disjunctions and combinations that enhance the iconicity of the enunciation. The theoretical foundation that provides answers to the research problem includes studies about the tenuous lines existing between autobiographical texts and fictional texts. This analysis proposes the verification of literary procedures and the identification of the ways in which these representations are mediated. This investigation is based on a qualitative approach of a basic, exploratory, descriptive, and bibliographical nature. The methods used are analytical and hypothetical deductive. The results obtained in this investigation point to Vermelho amargo as being the transposition of an external reality to an artistic reality, based on procedures showing the image of red as the guiding axis of the narration. There is a reordering of the past, at a distance from what happened, resulting in a renewed perspective, with the experience of the past escaping the narrator.
