Resumo: |
This thesis establishes similarities between the categories of memory and identity in the novels, The deep rivers (1958/2005), by the peruvian writer José María Arguedas, and Three houses and a river (1958/2018), by the brazilian writer Dalcídio Jurandir. Starting from the problems that arise when reading the novels more closely, questions arise that highlight the need for research. Thus, there are the initial questions: how are memory and identity presented in the characters' narrative discourse? How do they interrelate to sustain and guarantee the fictional narrative process? José María Arguedas and Dalcídio Jurandir build their narratives using fictional space as a constituent element for mnemonic and identity processes? How does this happen in novels that present distinct fictional spaces? In an attempt to answer such questions, some hypotheses were raised. The first is that both novels present moments in which the events of memorialist nature are evidenced, based on the narrative discourse of the characters. In this perspective, the second hypothesis raised is that, from the narrative discourse, a process of cultural identity construction begins, which is related to the fictional space/territory. And finally, the hypothesis that, the fictional space is conducive to memorialist manifestations and identity constructions. Ernesto, character-narrator of The deep rivers, and Alfredo, characterprotagonist of Three houses and a river, go through processes of profound and significant changes, uniting the construction of cultural identities combined with mnemonic processes, through striking narrative strategies in both novels. A fruitful dialogue between literature, literary criticism, philosophy and sociology opens up to studies on culture. Having as support, scholars who talked about the concepts of memory, identity, difference, culture and their presence in the literary text.
