Resumo: |
This thesis looks at the French influence as one of the factors that, intertwined with others, formed what we can call Brazilian charm or elegance. For this, the focus fell on three characters from French history: King Louis XIV for having led, during the 17th century, France to be the generating center of what would be class and elegance, influencing other countries in Europe and, consequently, the Americas, especially the Brazilian court; the Archbishop of Cambrai, François de Salignac de La Mothe-Fénelon, for being one of the first authors of a treatise on education for girls, including fashion and elegance; the Marquise de Maintenon, morganatic wife of King Sun who, based on the religious norms of Fénelon, founded the first secular college in France, the College of Saint-Cyr and, therefore, considered the first lay educator in France |
