Resumo: |
Suicide among indigenous peoples is a historical problem, resulting from violence from colonization to the present day, and is a public health problem at the national level. The General Objective of the research consists of describing the meanings present in the experiences of suicide risk among Potiguara indigenous people, highlighting the dialectical articulation between socio-historical and subjective determinations, as well as investigating the possible actions developed by Psychology professionals, in an intersectoral and articulated with popular movements, within the scope of suicide prevention and promoting the mental health of the indigenous population. I describe the theoretical categories of Socio-Historical Psychology, based on the assumptions of denaturalization and the historicity of psychological phenomena, situating the contributions of this approach to the study of suicide, taking into account the impacts of racism on the mental health of the indigenous population. I establish epistemological and methodological reflections on Indigenous Psychology, in dialogue with Socio-Historical Psychology and other approaches, proposing a positioning for research and professional practice in Indigenous Psychology. The work method was based on Dialectical Historical Materialism, which is the basis of Socio-Historical Psychology, approaching the data from the principles of totality and contradictions of psychosocial phenomena, from an anti-colonial perspective. Questionnaires with quantitative data – demographic and suicide risk factors among indigenous people – were used as instruments, as well as interviews with qualitative data on suicide ideations and attempts, suicide risk factors and the role of SESAI professionals in prevention. Public data were also collected on the DATASUS platform on indigenous suicide, as well as data on pesticide poisoning in the municipalities of the villages of the Potiguara people, in the IBGE Agricultural Census. Through the data obtained, I verified the presence of suicide risks among Potiguara indigenous people and the need for articulated proposals to prevent this psychosocial phenomenon. My thesis is, therefore, the affirmation of possible strategies for preventing suicide in the indigenous population and promoting mental health and Good Living, through the construction and strengthening of an Indigenous Psychology in psychosocial care, intersecting various public policies – Health, Education, Social Assistance and others.
