This research had the goal of creating and investigating the possibilities of a learning situation to secondary education students (7th). It uses the math modeling like a strategy of learning that is unusual in Brazil. The purpose of this research was answering the following question: What are the real possibilities to present a concept of a simple equation using the modeling math like a strategy of learning to secondary education students (7th)? In order to answer this question it was created a learning sequence with four sessions, to be developed with students of a private school, located in the São Paulo state. This sequence has used two environments: first session was done in a classroom and the others in a computer lab. Microsoft Excel was chosen as software and it was familiar to all students. The theory and the methodology fundamental were based in the math modeling according to Bassanezi (2006) and Barbosa (2001). Firstly, results were analyzed according to the number of correct replies and after were done a qualitative analysis between mistake questions and the correct. Results have shown that few difficulties were faced by the students, so, the choice of this strategy was a good option to the problem understanding and your solution. In addition, students who had difficulties in the classroom improved their performance in the computer lab. It shows the efficiency of math modeling like a strategy of teaching and learning.
