One of the main issues being debated in the educational area is indiscipline in school, whose causes always regard students‟ motivation, lack of parents‟ interest, school´s poor infrastructure, teacher unpreparation, and has been considered as a justification for failure and retention. In this context and on the basis of Sociohistorical Psychology, the present research aims to analyze and to provide visibility to both teachers‟ and students‟ understanding of the sense constitution regarding indiscipline as a phenomenon within the educational environment. Charlot (2002;2005); Casassus (2007); Vasconcellos (2009); Patto (2010), Aquino (1996), Rego (1996), Souza (2003), Freire (1996); Bock (2009), Gonzalez Rey (2005), among others, have been researched as bibliographic references. Various tools were used to collect the necessary data. A questionnaire, for instance, was applied to 9th graders in order to deepen the understanding of the term indiscipline , and a semi-structured interview with one 9th grader and two teachers so as to assess their sense of such phenomenon, since they are involved in the matter. Aguiar and Ozella´s (2006) orientations on the meaning core were used to analyze data. Results suggest a school emptied of social sense and of its main objectives - reflection and learning where indiscipline is brought up, hence concealing the primary role a school was supposed to play |
