Resumo: |
The purpose of this study was to examine the various representations and images related to the teaching profession, appearing in films in which the teacher is element (character) of the primary plot. Through analysis of the films (Mona Lisa Smile and Dead Poets Society) tried to highlight how the movie industry uses and discloses certain values and representations relating to the teaching profession. The films used were selected from a list drawn together in a public school teachers. The theoretical approach is the Critical Theory of Society, in particular, the concepts of cultural industry and standardization in order to express themselves in the culture and social relations. For analysis of the films we used mainly the writings of Adorno, Benjamin and Horkheimer in which cinema and cultural industries are subject to criticism. Since works are displayed enough in training courses, as teaching resource aimed to investigate the various images of the teacher pushed and encouraged by the film and are presented to prospective teachers. The way education is shown in the two films is contradictory. The institutions are centers of excellence with a reputation for training men and women who will stand out socially. In both films, education is seen as a path to social ascension. However, they are shown the limits of school education: students only live meaningful experiences when they encounter an exceptional and selfless teacher who, going against the norms of the institution, will show through his knowledge and his own experience of life one way Have your students choose their path independently |
