Resumo: |
This thesis is intended to analyze the processes of identity-metamorphosisemancipation, first, to allow for an understanding of how the meaning of life and that of the coming to be, are settled in the social construction of the subject, and second, to appraise the condition of the woman, her socio-historical determinations, and to what extent the revelations that identity, so constituted, explain the current sociocultural context. Empirical research, with qualitative approach, was conducted by using the history of life, a methodology biographical in nature, with the report of a 90 year old lady explaining her personal and professional path, her loves, her passions, attachments and ruptures. The collected data shaped a case study and that enabled to correlate the experience of old age with the expression of a viewpoint about the world and about the country. Because of her being able to directly witness a number of events, as a consequence of having been born in the first half of the 20th century, added to that the fact that she had access to a complete education (she held a career as a teacher), and by her having been always ahead of her time (she rebelled against gender barriers and accepted the consequences) the protagonist matched the specific conditions required for the description and assessment of facts that could refine a comprehension of the living styles that have ever since determined the consistencies and contradictions of the feminine identity. The presupposition was that explaining the sociocultural context of an individual is instrumental to sharpen the skill to observe facts that have been learned through history only. The methodological procedure was conducted with a preliminary caution, that of adopting a denaturalization process when dealing with the phenomenon of old age, to consider it a category that is socially and culturally built. Failing to do so would lead to a unidirectional approach, inadequate to treat a multifaceted phenomenon. Hence, a greater comprehension of the formation of identity of women in older age developed to an extent that contributed to further understanding of issues such as groups of belonging, contextualized society, symbolic forms, their reception and interpretation all of them a key hermeneutical condition to sustain socio-historical research, a subject field, where symbolic forms are pre-interpreted by the subjects that make-up this same field |
