This paper aims to analyze the role of education as a determinant of income inequality in labor in the Brazilian case. Initially a theoretical approach will be undertaken on the relationship between income distribution and human capital in order to understand the theoretical and empirical literature of authors who follow the national branch of the Human Capital Theory. Following, a historical approach was made to check the political and economic environment after 1970 looking for the possible causes of Brazilian education heterogeneity. From this analysis it was examined the role of educational public policies from the 1990s, as well as presented an assessment of educational performance and their impact on labor market in Brazilian macro-regions for the 2001-2009 period.
