Resumo: |
The present dissertation has The Practice of Social Work in Education as a theme. The identification and analysis of Social Work actions towards the reduction of school dropout at the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de São Paulo are the main themes of this research. The quests about the contribution of Social Work to the reduction of dropout have lead to two hypotheses: The first, that the actions towards the school dropout have been consolidated as the leading role of Social Work at IFSP. The second, that the strategies towards the school dropout are directly related to the Programa Nacional de Assistência Estudantil. Thus, the object of this research was the study of the process of proposition and implementation of actions and strategies against school dropout at the 27 IFSP campuses, as a PNAES objective, by Social Work through the perspective of providing the right of education and contributing to the construction of a democratic and participatory educational space. In this sense, analyzing the strategies that were proposed and implemented has constituted the general objective of the research. Documental, bibliographic and empirical research have been carried out. It was possible to identify the main historical elements of IFSP and of Professional and Technological Education. Theoretical references belonging to Social Work and Education, as the right to education, participatory democracy and broaden citizenship were constructed. Desk research was necessary to identify the reasons for school dropout at IFSP. The main reasons for school dropout were: work, learning disabilities, and lack of interest in the course. The empirical research was composed by semi-structured interviews with six social workers that work at IFSP. The results show that the contributions of the social workers to the permanence of students at IFSP, focus on straightening the bonds with the students and building critical thinking. Even being done in a punctual way and without proper systematization, the school dropout and students permanence at IFSP involve all professional actions, that are grounded on the concepts of effectiveness of the right to education, of participatory democracy and broaden citizenship |
