The main objective of this study was to investigate knowledge of mathematics that are used by professional nursing staff and how these skills are learned in the training of technicians. The applications of mathematics that are perceived by workers and developed practical nurses can contribute to promoting the education of reflective practitioners and critical work on the action. For the professional education faculty to use the results of calculations and reasoning related to mathematics to solve practical problems experienced in the workplace is a powerful feature to contextualize the students in this environment. This research uses a qualitative methodology with naturalistic approach-constructive and historical-hermeneutic focus that aims to reach an understanding of the phenomena and problems which investigates examining them in the very context in which they occur. Participants were given as subjects in the research process and were subject to data collection. Individuals taking actions needed to be directly associated with the profession of nursing or actions on the team that coordinates / runs the courses of professional trainers. Thus, 29 were nursing technicians, two course coordinators and a math teacher who participated in the study. To analyze the data was used Textual Discourse Analysis which can be understood as a self-organizing process of building understanding in which new understandings emerge and is performed through three components: the deconstruction of the texts of the "corpus", the unitarization; the establishment of relations between the unit elements, categorization, capturing the emerging new understanding that is communicated and confirmed thus obtaining valid interpretations. In the data analysis emerged four main categories: knowledge of mathematics used in the practice of nursing staff, the learning of mathematics by the nursing staff, which brings together the main places where this learning takes place, the mathematics of life for nursing staff, What is a category that shows the uses of this science in the experience of these people, and the teaching of Mathematics for nursing staff, which presents the results of interviews with the course coordinators and mathematics teacher. Finally, we present a table containing the main assertions and the evidence conclusive.
