Resumo: The present research has the objective of analyse the documental production of Carlos Eugenio Correa da Silva, known as Conde de Paço D’Arcos, who became the first diplomat to represent Portugal in the Brazilian Republic. His diplomatic mission occurred between 2nd June 1891 and 20th November 1893. Throughout this period he produced an extensive documentary collection regarding the Brazilian political situation. In order to comprehend his political impressions, we developed a contextualization of the individual attempting to depict that his point of view concerning the world as a whole was a reflexion of his past politicprofessional maturation. Therefore, the supporting reasoning of the social order and of the military hierarchy are recurrent elements across his diplomatic mission, with special noteworthiness to the 'Revolução Federalista' (Federalist Revolution) and the 'Revolta da Armada' (Armed Revolt). The usage of diplomatic sources in the course of the research does not diminish the proposed main subject whatsoever, which is to make sense of the political perspective of a diplomat in the Brazilian Republic.
