The present work selects the most relevant concepts of postmodernity under the perspective of the conditions of contemporary man and discusses how this individual is represented by the latest generation of sul-rio-grandense short story writers. From the social, philosophical and anthropological thought, of authors like Zygmunt Bauman, Christopher Lasch, Krishan Kumar, Stuart Hall, Mike Featherstone, Jean Baudrillard, the work analyzes Vidas Cegas, by Marcelo Benvenutti; Deixe o quarto como está, by Amílcar Bettega Barbosa; and Ovelhas que voam se perdem no céu, by Daniel Pellizzari, looking to verify how postmodern human condition is portrayed in these literature, giving emphasis to the return of nonsense and grotesque aesthetics and to the value granted to cruelty in these texts.
