Resumo: | International trade has been increasingly realized as a source of resources and business for companies that join this foreign trade. One of the major exporting segments of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the poultry industry is among the top three in Brazil, which in turn, is the largest exporter of poultry and offal from the world. The objective of this study is to analyze the internationalization process of firms in the gaucho poultry industry. The research method used was the multiple case study. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews with executives from two companies in the industry and document analysis. The interviews were carried out with a roadmap based on the Uppsala Model, which was developed by Johanson and Vahlne (1977) and explains the international activities of firms. The analysis of results indicates that the Uppsala Model is applicable in the internationalization process of gaucho poultry, including being identified in at least one of the two companies. It was also possible to identify the gains that the use of this model provides, for example, reducing the risk, the incentive to strategic planning and the search for knowledge and experience in the international market. The findings of the study indicated that the model remains valid and may even be expanded with new variables by their authors in later research. |
