Resumo: This inquiry considers to analyze the teacher while reader of poetry, in one applied research of field the teachers of the area of Letters, that act in First Degree and High School of the city of Santa Maria - RS. The work intends to verify the presence of poetical texts as reading of the teacher and of that forms it uses poems in classroom. For this, aspects are taken in account as the capacity that this professional has to search poetical texts and to select them according to its interests and its necessities. Moreover, it is looked to analyze if the teacher knows to dialogue with poems and if he knows to change information with other readers. With base in this, it is intended to trace a profile of the teacher as reader of poetry, on the basis of its description of cultural and professional life. As it arrives in port theoretical, it is focused sociology of the reading, the reading and the formation of the reader and theories of the poetical text. To prove the objectives of the research, two instruments are applied, a fiche of personal data and a halfstructuralized questionnaire, to twenty-one teachers who compose the sample of this research. Thus, it is intend to contribute to works that search alternatives for the qualification of the teacher while reader of poetry and professional capable to work with poetical texts in classroom in an adequate way.
