Resumo: | The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of the water gymnastics and water gymnastics combined with resistance training on elderly people. Hemodynamic parameters, metabolism and muscular strength were verified in twenty-five elderly healthy people of both sexes (60- 78 years old). The subjects were divided in two groups: a) water gymnastics group (Hydro; n = 10) and b) water gymnastics combined with resisted training group (TR + Hydro, n = 14). The water gymnastics training was performed once a week while the resistence training was performed tree times per week with intervals of one day, for twelve weeks. Heart rate, systolic blood pressure, rate pressure product, anaerobic threshold and muscular strength were measured before the beginning of the training period and after the twelve weeks of training. After the training period, a significant difference in the interaction group vs time in relation to the anaerobic threshold (AT), demonstrating a differentiated behavior between the groups. The AT improvements in the TR + Hydro group varied between 20,3 and 26,37%; the Hydro group had the AT decreased that varied between -2,5 and -6,3%, depending on the variance used to express the AT. The muscular strength in both groups statically significant increment in relation to the time; the improvements in the torque peak 120°/s varied between 5,83 and 12,60% in the Hydro group and between 11,22 and 17,88% in the TR + Hydro group; the improvements in the torque peak 180°/s varied between 5,58 and 13,58% in the Hydro group and between 8,02 and 16,25% in the TR + Hydro group. In relation to the hemodynamic parameters, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, rate pressure product verified during a submaximum test of 10 minutes, presented a statistically significant difference between pre and post test. Both groups presented diminished values of all hemodynamic parameters after the training period (week 12), compared to the first measures taken before the beginning of training (week 1). These results demonstrate that the water gymnastics as well as the resisted training combined with the water gymnastics intervenes positively in the hemodynamics answers, diminishing the cardiovascular stress during the exercise. It is noteworthy that the increase in muscular strength possibly contributed for the hemodynamic improve, once both groups presented an increase in the torque peak. Moreover, the enhancement in the AT observed in the TR + Hydro group was possibly due to the resisted training and not by the water gymnastics, because it occurred only in the group RT + Hydro. |
