Resumo: The present work reports the process of reorganization of the teaching practice associated with the curriculum of Mathematics in the Elementary School in a study group composed of teachers of a private school in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The group met with the aim of both observing their theoretical evolution and understanding the main modifications in their practice, from the following orienting question: how is the teaching practice of Mathematics teachers of Elementary School who participate in a study group reconstructed? In the meetings, the teachers sought strategies to qualify their daily work, aiming at its improvement and the students learning. The investigation throws light on the difficulties teachers have to motivate their students. It was observed that it is fundamental to reconstruct the teaching practice, involving students in the school activities. The group also concluded that, in order to accomplish the reorganization of its action, and the students to find meaning in what they study, it is necessary to approximate both the contents and the activities to the community context. In the process of discussion about the school scope in the group of teachers, by reflecting, sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences, and learning to learn, it was possible to observe the recovery of self-esteem of the participants. It became clear to the subjects of this research that, in the classroom, they can mediate learning situations, encouraging students to be participative, autonomous, and critical subjects.
