Resumo: This research aims to investigate how the development of certain activities in class of mathematics, with students from 5th grade of elementary school, could help in the formation of a citizen critical from a contextual approach to the students' daily lives and that uses the dialogue and the research in class. The thoughts here shared are parts of readings and experiences in the classroom, in addition to records of the school community involved. The pressuposed theoreticians are supported in writers like Olé Skovsmose, Paulo Freire and Ubiratan D’Ambrósio. In this research, are described as emerging issues from the proposed questions, people involved in this research, the history of the researcher, the activities developed in the classroom and reflections resulting from them. The analysis of the results happened from questions that contribute in the formation of a citizen critical, observing in which way the experience of cultural life and a person’s context matter in the relations that a person establishes. This is a qualitative research, which uses the observation to collect data and a triangulation strategy in the analysis of the information obtained. Certainly, the results obtained are related to the reality described in this report, which is part of a process, matched with these facts.
