The Environmental Management System allows to the organization to control the effects of the productive process in the environment. However environmental certified doesn't necessarily implicate in a satisfactory environmental acting. This work aims to identify the contributions of the Cleaner Production Program in a Environmental Management System certified according to ISO 14001, because this Management System model acts according to the environmental legislation and it gets the attention for the need that an evaluation is accomplished it aims at of the efficiency of this system using the concepts of Cleaner Production seeking improvement in the environmental conduct of the organizations of assets and services. A Study Case developed in a company of the section mechanical metal and the principal used methodological resources meditated: it researches bibliographical concerning Environmental Management System, documents and registrations in pertinent electronic files to the EMS; interviews with employees with function in this Environmental Management System and environmental consultants that developed the EMS; direct and participant observations accomplished by the author of this work. It can be verified with this study that the concept of prevention of residues corroborates with the improvement of the nvironmental Management System of the companies. The continues improvement, extolled for ISO 14001, is not the warranty of significant increase in the environmental acting, because a company will simply be able to be adapted to the norm standardizing an inefficient model of the management. The standardization of procedures demanded by the normalization it propitiates that the company assumes as correct the traditional procedures of the low environmental acting, being necessary to the approach of the concepts of Cleaner Production as complemental instruments to the Environmental Management System to improve the environmental performance.
