Resumo: Mankind explores natural resources since the early days, but only recently realized the impacts that is causing to the environment and the need to ensure the sustainability of the planet, in the economic, social and environmental spheres. With the modern tendency to address the issue sustainability, society has demanded the organizations to practicing and disclosing their environmental actions. This study focuses the field of basic sanitation, which has environmental sustainability as part of the business. This paper has attempted to research the perception of employees about company s environmental programs, the organizational environmental conduct and compile their improvement suggestions for environmental programs. It was decided to conduct a case study by using a mixed research method: quantitative and qualitative. The Companhia de Saneamento B??sico do Estado de S??o Paulo - Sabesp was chosen to study, and three of its environmental programs were selected: Sabesp 3Rs Program (Reduce, reuse and recycle), Environmental Education Program (PEA) and the Program for the Rational Use of Water (PURA), because they are the most comprehensive. For the qualitative research sustainability reports of sanitation companies were studied, and the managers of the three programs were submitted to semistructured interviews. For quantitative research a field survey was conducted with a sample of 739 employees of the Board of Regional Systems (R). Website, Intranet and Sustainability Report was identified as main tools used by Sabesp to disseminate environmental programs. The research pointed to the need to enhance internal communication of environmental programs to reach all geographic regions and all hierarchical levels. It was suggested creating Internal Marketing programs that can unify aims and strategies for internal promotion of environmental programs. It was identified individual behavior favorable to environmental actions on the employees, what have to be boosted by involving company employees aiming better results in its environmental programs. Among the improvement suggestions given by the employees, have prevailed those related to dissemination and training, as well as encouragement from the leaders. It was further suggested to involve the society and promote alignment between the business units, aiming to widen the programs scope and achieve more significant results. This study contributes to organizational practice by proposing to managers an Internal Marketing program focused to environmental programs, in addition to detailing the actions related to it.
