Resumo: The present work is a study that seeks to investigate if the alignment of systems information with organizational strategy contributes to an increase in the competitivity among the autoparts manufacturers in Brazil. For this purpose, we use a competition model based on the "field and weapons" theory. Competitivity based on IT procurement has been the object of study in the academic world; and one could observe that investing in IT does not necessarily result in financial gains. This non-correlation between IT investment and financial gains is known as the productivity paradox. After presenting an overview of the autoparts sector in Brazil, this study examines varies models of IT alignment to business strategy and focuses on a competition model of "fields and weapons". This model has a quantitative methodology, to specify clearly which the necessities of excellency in the company, it is appropriate to the purpose of this work. A field survey in eighteen autopart manufacturing companies has been conducted in order to compile data on the intensity of how those companies use each one of the proposed sixteen IT tools, among other issues. A competition model based on "fields and weapons" theory has been applied in order to verify how well the surveyed companies adequately utilize IT tools in their competitive strategies. This model has been shown appropriately to quantify how much of the IT being utilized by those companies contributes to increase competitivity and how much it does not. In addition to this, this model also presents a clear methodology in achiveing that IT alignment.
