Resumo: The centralization of clinical analysis laboratories is a reality that reduces costs and adds productivity and quality to exams. The structure of the Aeronautics health system was modified in 2017 and converged to the centralization of its Health Organizations and the Clinical Analysis Laboratory of the São Paulo Air Force Hospital (HFASP) became the central detachment structure to attend some cities, such as, Pirassununga, Guaratinguetá and São José dos Campos. Although widely used, specimens such as serum and plasma should be standardized for reliable analysis of sensitive and relevant parameters such as fasting glucose. However, several studies were conducted with different temperatures or storage periods and showed discrepant results regarding the stability of this analyte. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the stability of serum and plasma glucose stored at 2 to 8°C on days 0, 2 and 8, and thus establish a collection, transport and storage protocol to ensure the quality and reliability of HFASP decentralized blood glucose testing. For this purpose serum and plasma groups were used. The results have shown that there weren´t significant differences in mean glucose in both serum and plasma. In both conditions, the mean glucose on day 0 wasn´t significant different than on day 2 or day 8. Furthermore, we found excellent reproducibility between serum and plasma glucose dosages and a strong correlation between the two measurements on day 0. These data show that both collection tubes can be used in the conditions of collection and processing used in the research to measure glucose in our test system, with no difference in the reported results.
