Resumo: The purpose of this research is to investigate the adaptive efficiency and crisis circumstances of HIV infected people who participated on the DST/Aids Local Program in Aparecida City SP. The instrument applied was the Preventive Clinical Interview - EDAO Escala Diagnóstica Adaptativa Operacionalizada (Operable Adaptive Diagnostic Rate). The research is based on the observation of 5 men and 5 women HIV infected who are supported by the Community Health Service. Results showed that negative stigmas of diseases like Aids, have strong influence on the final diagnosis. It showed that affection and relationships, as well as productivity are seriously harmed, followed by the social and cultural aspects. Some important aspects had been observed, like the crisis resulting of the diagnostic impact, as well as the use of drugs, vulnerable behaviors that possibly led to the HIV contamination, difficulties in conflict solving and interpersonal relationships, losses deeply experienced in lifetime, and the feminization phenomenon of HIV disease (women infected by their steady sexual partners). In the organic sector of functioning, the population group studied showed interest by the treatment most of them were diagnosed with a severe ineffective adaptation. This study come with important inquiries about the manner HIV infected individuals keep their psychic balance and the relationship with their jobs, calling researchers attention to the need of forward studies that contemplate different instruments for the best understanding of this subject
