Resumo: In this thesis, we present a discussion in which the issues related to the degradation of the environment and the proposal for an environmental education, still depend on many efforts to form a critical social conscience of shared responsibility for human actions. So, the research problem sought to investigate how, or in what way, the Environmental Education Coordination (CEA) of Praia Grande, SP, articulates its projects with critical EE? To this end, we have three objectives, namely: (i) to present a historical overview of the exploitation of the environment through human actions and their consequences; (ii) understand the annexation of environmental education in international discussions and its path towards the formation of citizenship; (iii) discuss how the issue of critical environmental education is articulated with educational practices developed by the Environmental Education Coordination (CEA). The corpus encompasses the projects developed by CEA over its 25 years, which linked to the Department of Education in the municipality, acts as an educational space aimed at serving students and the community of the city and region, under the proposal of bringing reflection on environmental education. . What justifies this choice are the discussions related to actions that enable (or not) the formation of an environmental conscience aimed at transforming society in its way of thinking and acting, issues that have become increasingly present in the contemporary world. The theoretical framework that supports this work are studies related to the degradation of the environment throughout history; the rise of environmentalism; the issue of environmental issues at the international level; the theme of the insertion of environmental education in international debates; the path for the formation of citizenship; issues related to environmental awareness; the context of critical environmental education; and the projects developed by CEA. For the development of the research we used the documental method (GOLDENBERG, 1997). The results confirmed the hypothesis that the environmental education developed by CEA is not proposing critical reflections in its pedagogical practices. During the analysis, we found discontinuity in the projects developed, although the social problems continued, as in the case of the increase in dengue cases, which reflect the need to expand the limits of the environmental theme. In the end, we understand that the educational space has great relevance in the region and we consider that the thesis can contribute to the work of CEA, by reconsidering that its projects can integrate the socio-environmental issues of society, considering that this can be a new look at the proposals. developed.(AU)
