Resumo: This research analyzes the possibilities and challenges of gamification as an auxiliary resource in the teaching and learning processes of the Biology discipline. Theoretical and field research were carried out, with qualitative analysis. The main question of this research is by what means can factors such as engagement, motivation, and participation can be achieved with the use of gamification experiences in the teaching and learning process, in biology. The research field chosen was a state public elementary school located in the ABC region of São Paulo. The students participated in the research between 17 and 18 years old of age, who were inserted in the lecture environment and in the experience of gamification of the content of the subject of Biology. A practical application of games was performed according to the steps of the Design Science Research methodology, using lesson plans, mind maps and games as artifacts. It was possible to verify, with the help of research results published in books, of authors in the present field, in previous studies, theses, dissertations, and articles found in databases, from the year of 2015, until 2018, using keywords related to the topic. The carrying out of this research is justified with the purpose of analyzing and reflecting on by what means can gamification experiences contribute, and stimulate fundamental aspects of the teaching and learning process. Intending the stimulation of new studies, and researches related to the topic.
