Resumo: |
The objective of this research was to evaluate the dental and skeletal changes in the transverse and vertical directions produced by the Surgically Assisted Rapid Maxillary Expansion (ERM-AC). The sample consisted of 17 patients with a mean age of 24 years and 1 month, 11 female and 6 male, who had a transverse maxillary growth deficiency, and had not previously undergone orthodontic treatment and required MRS. -AC as part of your orthodontic treatments. All patients were radiographed in the pre-expansion phases immediately after the three-month period of retention with the device itself, thus totaling a sample of 51 normal frontal radiographs. Angular and linear measurements were obtained from cephalometric tracings and statistically analyzed. It was concluded that ERM-AC produced an increase in nasal cavity and maxillary width, which remained constant after the three-month retention period. The upper and lower intermolar distances increased after maxillary expansion and remained stable during the retention period. There was distance between the maxillary central incisors, with greater movement at apical level in relation to the crowns, which produced a divergence of the roots after expansion. After the containment period, there was greater movement of the crowns to their original positions. Evaluating the vertical behavior of the face, an increase of the anterior inferior facial height was observed. (AU) |
