Resumo: |
This study evaluated the chewing efficiency in Anterior Open Bite malocclusion by Me-mastig, a device that can be used in order to measure the efficiency of mastication, promising to be a practical, fast and efficient alternative to exam the mastication. The experimental group consisted of 106 children aged 07 to 11 years, divided into 2 groups, as follows: (A) Anterior Open Bite Group, containing 51 children and (B) Control Group with normal overbite containing 55 children. We sought to evaluate the masticatory efficiency of the two groups of children and comparing the results, which showed that Anterior Open Bite group chewing was less efficient when compared to the control group; fact that can be explained by the facial features of individuals with malocclusion studied and also the features of the anterior open bite malocclusion. Conclusions, anterior open bite is responsible for a significant decrease in the masticatory efficiency and the Me-mastig device proved to be an effective, easy to use and inexpensive method that can be used in everyday practice to measure or evaluate the Masticatory Efficiency. |
