Some single carrier communication systems require a vestigial or single sideband amplitude modulation, known as AM-VSB and AM-SSB, respectively. It will be presented different methods that accomplish this function. The main purpose of this dissertation is to study the complex filtering method, presenting simulations and experimental measurements. This work will focus on 8VSB modulation, adopted by ATSC as the american standard for digital TV. It will be presented how to reduce the bandwidth for this modulation as well as image rejection converting techniques. The discrete-time signal notation has been adopted, aiming the implementation on programmable logic digital circuits.
