Resumo: | The official statistical agendas determine the work program of the national statistical agencies and define themes, population groups and territories that become (in) visible from the statistics. Visibility provides empowerment to different actors and social issues. To define agendas, the managers of the National Statistical Systems reconcile varied interests of a heterogeneous set of actors. The dynamics of the design of these agendas in Brazil also deal with the temporal lag of statistical legislation and the lack of systematized registration of the dynamics and agendas. The research identified several actions promoted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics to delineate the directions of national statistics and extensive thematic coverage of the debates. Those actions ratify the efficiency of this dynamic and supporting the recognition of the excellence of official Brazilian statistics. On the other hand, the research pointed out the need for documentation of the step by step to define the agendas and the imperative requirement of diversification of participating actors for ensure the representability of different social segments. In addition, it was found that the public management of information in the country lacks a strategic all-encompassing view in which the production of official statistics would be effectively contemplated. |
