The present work investigates how the processes of production and diffusion of technical and scientific information occur among specialists in the assistance area aiming to contribute to the construction of knowledge in Oncology. The main interest is to know specialists information needs and uses and to understand how they cope with existing knowledge and means of communication available. In other words, how this effort is viewed in terms of information flow towards knowledge generation. In this attempt, the concept of information is linked to the institutional culture context to give a better understanding of how social practices among professional specialists in palliative care influence knowledge sharing. The study was developed in two stages. The first one was towards designing information behavior of INCA specialists. The second was intended to describe how information transfer happens among specialists of palliative care in their assistance practices. It is found high interrelation among specialists in relation to problems solving on routine activities in assistance practices. The specialists develop an efficient communication network to obtain and diffuse information aiming knowledge production to solve specific problems. It was also founded that there is a gap between informal and formal communication of technical and scientific information originated by assistance practices. This needs to be improved at institutional basis in order to increase knowledge production in Oncology |
