The aim of this study was to investigate the existence of any action taken towards the preservation of the historical patrimony of the city of Rio de Janeiro, for the last six years, as well as to analyze govemmentaI relations and the participation of the society in this processo After a bibliographical research, complemented by a series of interviews with people engaged in this field, it has been concluded that, despite many difficulties, there are, in fact, efforts being made towards the preservation of the built historical patrimony. The same importance, though, cannot be said when talking about preservation of the unbuilt historical patrimony. With regards to the participation of the society, it can be found, but on1y in a few placed cases. As per the interaction among govemmental organs, this, in our view, seemed to be a criticai question |
