This thesis aims to analyze how the dynamics of sensemaking and sensegiving influence the construction of trust among the professionals of an organization of high reliability in the response to an extreme event. Thus, this study brings some innovations, first to empirically verify the dynamics of the sensemaking and sensegiving of a high reliability organization within an extreme event in Brazil, and secondly to verify how this dynamics can exert influence in the construction of trust among the professionals of the team in the analyzed context. The theoretical framework addressed the concepts of sensemaking, sensegiving, High Reliability Organizations, trust and identity. A gap has been identified which relates to the studies that relate the dynamics of sensemaking and sensegiving of teams and leaders in extreme situations, in order to understand how trust is built. It is a qualitative study of an inductive character, that in the collection of data was used the semi-structured ethnographic interview, the documentary analysis and the technical visit. For the analysis of the interviews and their narratives the perspective of sensemaking was used, so the study empirically verified aspects of the construction of the trust in the response activities of an organization of high reliability to the event. The findings showed that the sensemaking carried out by the HRO in response to the event occurred was carried out in an interactive, collaborative and rapid manner, occurring simultaneously with the sensegiving process. This dynamic and social process influences the actions and identities of the actors in question, evidencing that the positive integration of the perceived trust factors and the organizational identity of the professionals are fundamental for the construction of the trust, and consequently to reduce the ambiguity inherent to the researched context. It is also concluded that, just as the dynamics of sensemaking and sensegiving influence and evidence a strong organizational identity of the HRO studied, reciprocally this organizational identity also influences in a substantial way the dynamics mentioned; thus influencing the actions of these professionals within the context. Finally, the study proposes an emerging theoretical model that integrates the elements present in the construction of trust within the analyzed context. |
