Resumo: We worked in order to recognize the Parliamentary Inquiry Commissions as institutions of the Legislative Power which are prepared to investigate determined irregular facts, reaching its important examiner function given by the Federal Constitution. Our study favors thoughts about which are the true powers and limits of the PIC’s in order to avoid abuse and illegalities on account of these commissions, noting that the responsibility to prevent these mishappenings belongs to the Judiciary Power. Through bibliographical and documentary techniques, we were able to use the dialectic method of approach and therefore several perspectives of the national doctrine about the range of influence of the PIC’s arise, as well as the analysis of the statements from the Supreme Federal Court about the matter in subject. From the study of the doctrinaire and jurisprudential statements, we came to the following conclusions: the Parliamentary Inquiry Commissions have unique nature, which cannot be compared with other means of investigation; the range of influence of the PIC’s cannot reach specific parts of the jurisdiction which were established by the Federal Constitution; and it is perfectly possible to have the intervention of the law in order to restrain eventual abuses from the politicians in charge of the investigations.
