Resumo: This work aims to analyze how the social capital of board members influences the internationalization of the Brazilian companies listed in B3 (the Brazilian Stock Exchange). The concepts of social capital of the board of directors and social ties theory were used. These theories were adopted in the corporate governance environment of the Brazilian companies, in order to support their international strategies. For this, a qualitative exploratory research was done through the multiple case study method, with interviews conducted with 7 board directors and 2 internationalization managers from companies listed in B3. The results were analyzed using the open-coded content analysis technique and NVivo software. The results showed that board directors influence the internationalization of companies in different ways, mainly through management counselling, relationship and negotiation with shareholders and board interlocking. This work contributes to the studies of board interlocking, social networks and internationalization of Brazilian companies.
