Resumo: Education is widely recognized as a crucial driver for human and social development. However, the traditional way in which it is conceived often neglects emotional, social and cultural aspects that are essential for the integral development of individuals. In this context, art emerges as a powerful educational tool, as it can promote a range of essential competencies and skills that go beyond the scope of traditional disciplines. The inclusion of art through educational techniques can play an important role in developing capacities, helping young people to overcome practical challenges, promoting greater freedom and participation in society. Amartya Sen's theory of capabilities offers a holistic approach that emphasizes the importance of expanding individuals' substantive freedoms, enabling them to live the lives they value. According to Sen, education should go beyond the acquisition of technical or academic skills, being a means to expand people's real opportunities to achieve various "ways of being and doing", which are valuable for fulfilling life. This work investigates how art, used as a tool for education, can contribute to the development of capacities, according to Amartya Sen. The research focuses on Galpão Aplauso, an NGO that uses art as an educational tool to help young people from vulnerable communities. Galpão Aplauso adopts innovative educational techniques, focused on the use of art for human development, recognizing the diversity of needs, challenges and deprivations of individuals. The intersection between Amartya Sen's theory and creative economy occurs to the extent that the creative economy can be seen as a vehicle for capacity development by influencing other sectors, such as education. By influencing education through creative and innovative educational methods, particularly with a focus on human potential, the creative economy provides opportunities for individuals to develop skills, acquire knowledge, increase opportunities, and gain autonomy. This, in turn, can lead to better living conditions, greater social inclusion, and the individual's freedom to act in the world. In this way, the creative economy not only contributes to economic growth but also to the realization of human potential, aligning with Amartya Sen's principles of capacity development. Promoting policies that encourage a creative economy can therefore be an effective strategy to achieve more sustainable and humane development. The research was conducted through a qualitative approach, with in-depth interviews conducted with management professionals, professors and students. The results demonstrate that art, used as an educational tool in Galpão Aplauso can contribute to the elimination of deprivation, development of skills, expansion of opportunities, promotion of the condition of agent and improvement of quality of life, essential factors for human development. In this way, factors such as these tend to increase the participation of young people in a more dynamic way in society as they can carry out valuable functions that they consider important, positively impacting their lives and those of their communities.
