Resumo: The objective of this dissertation is to discuss the cataract patients decision making process when choosing an Intraocular Lens (IOL), in the private health system. In the literature review, the constructs of information search, high-involvement purchase, alternative evaluation and decision-making process were studied. An exploratory research with a qualitative approach was carried out, using semi-structured interviews applied by the researcher and approved by the ESPM Research Ethics Committee. Thirty seven subjects, comprising thirty-three patients, two physicians and two surgical advisors, were interviewed. The results show that patients trust in the healthcare professional opinion and point out to the need for improvements in the systematization of the premium intraocular lens offer so that more patients can benefit from a better quality and quantity of vision.
