Resumo: | One of the fundamental tasks of the school is to teach students to read, in conditions to understand and interpret the meaning of different speech genres. Researches about the way to conduct reading practices by the school have revealed the frequent failure in the formation of students as readers. The reflections of the philosopher of language, Bakhtin, can serve to support the educational work of educating readers, considering that reading is a dialogical process that involves the subject and its socio-historical and cultural experiences. Aiming to seek alternatives to work with the practice of reading in high school, this research focused on the analysis of the headlines genre as one of the ways to improve the reading ability of students. In this perspective, we justify the use of two important headlines of newspapers, Folha de S. Paulo and O Estado de S. Paulo, as quite promising pedagogical tools, based on the assumptions that the headline is a genre of easy accessibility to work in the classroom and can enable the reader to become aware not only with the news stated, but also enables you to converse with different ideological, social and historical voices of utterances. We analyzed the textual organization and ideological manifestations of the headlines, with the aim of seeking an analytical and interpretive reading of the meaning of their announcers. To support this study, we build on the principles of dialogism and the notion of speech genres discovered by Bakhtin (2000, 2003), the studies of Marcuschi (2008) and Sobral (2009), regarding the work of the Russian philosopher. Other theorists have been given support by studies on reading practices, Koch and Elias (2006) and by contributions from studies on ideology made by Fiorin (1998) and Chauí (1980). The research has shown that the newspaper headlines genre may work as a suitable instrument for improving the capacity of text comprehension by students because lead them to realize on the concise organization of each, the speech they materialized.
