Resumo: Many breeders have found in chilled semen transport, an alternative to replace the animal transport. However, specific box to carry canine semen is not selling in Brazil. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate canine sperm viability after to cool in a thermal box available on market, used to other species. Sixteen ejaculated from six healthy adult dogs were collected. The ejaculated were analyzed for motility, vigor, concentration, sperm morphology, swelling test and eosin stain. After analysis, the semen was divided into 4 aliquots, centrifuged and the supernatant was removed. Two samples were rediluted with seminal plasma and two with Kenney. These samples were kept in Botutainer (Biotech, Botucatu, SP, Brazil) thermal box, which maintains temperature around 5°C for 35 hours. According to our results, the box was capable to maintain increased sperm viability in samples either stored in extender or seminal plasma. However, the extender was superior to seminal plasma, particularly to preserve the sperm motility. It was concluded that Botutainer ® thermal box can be used to carry canine semen by conventional means.
