Resumo: | Aim: To assess the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the stage of permanent dental maturation in patients with Class II malocclusion. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study of 37 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Age, gender, weight and height were collected, together with the initial CT scan. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to determine the correlation strength between variables. The statistical significance considered was p <0.05 two-tailed. Results: The sample consisted of patients between 10 and 14 years old. The majority (78.4%) had a normal BMI. There was a weak correlation between dental maturation and BMI in the evaluated patients, without statistical significance (r = -0.10; p = 0.55). Conclusion: There was no correlation between BMI and the stage of dental maturation for the sample studied. |
