Resumo: Malocclusion is the third most prevalent oral pathology, and was considered a priority in global public health. The treatment of Angle Class II malocclusion is a major challenge that the clinical orthodontist faces every day. The PowerScope orthodontic device (American Orthodontics, Sheboygan, WI, USA) is an innovation in mandibular propulsion devices. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the compression and decompression forces of the PowerScope spring in three moments during its clinical use: when installing the device (T0), after three months of using the device (T1) and after removing the device (T2). Six patients from the Post Graduation Course in Orthodontics, University Positivo, were previously diagnosed with Class II malocclusion and clinical need for advancement of the lower arch, so 12 devices were installed and subjected to tests. Statistical analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics v.20.0 computer program. Armonk, NY: IBM Corp. The results suggest that there is no major change in the compression force of the PowerScope spring during its clinical use, and that there was a significant loss of decompression force of the PowerScope spring during its use, suggesting that the device requires frequent reactivations.
