Resumo: | The difficult in the reading comprehension is seen as one of the main problems that hinder the success of public school students in contests, entrance exams, Enem (a test like SAT, applied in the US), among others. Read and understand texts in the textbook with a socialinteractional perspective of language has been a challenging practice, as shown by many researchs about the teaching of Portuguese as native language. Based on this fact this research becomes relevant and is justified by the need for further discussions in this area and it will be reflected on one native language teaching based on the notion of language as interactive and dialogical activity, and the comprehension as an active and constructive process on the content of the proposals of comprehension and interpretation of textbooks. This research aims to analyze the teaching of comprehension in the Portuguese language textbook 9th grade of elementary school. The chosen corpus is composed by six comprehension and understanding activities from the book: Portuguese languages, whose authors are William Robert Cherry and Thereza Cochar Magellan. The research‟s methodology is bibliographic and analytical and consists of two stages. The first one discusses the conceptions of language, reading and understanding, using social-interactional and cognitive studies from authors of Textual Linguistics: Koch (2002, 2013, 2014), Koch and Elias (2012), Marcuschi (2008, 2012), Kleiman (2013) and Solé (1998). In the second stage performs an analysis of the proposed text comprehension activities in the textbook that is the corpus of this research. The aim of this research is turn reflections about understanding in textbooks possible, in a way that can increase the skills of students in the language and in the reading comprehension.
