Resumo: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a syndrome of multiple etiologies, resulting from down of insulin to perform adequately its effects. Each year, 7 million people develop diabetes and 3.8 million die with disease directly related to it. (IDF, 2006). The DM is a major worldwide health problem, as in the number of affected people, disability and premature mortality, as in costs involved in the control and in the treatment of its complications. Thus, the reduction of these indices becomes a strategy for health promotion. The practice regular of physical exercise has proven efficient in the prevention and control of DM 2.The benefits of exercise can be leveraged with the intake of coffee and caffeine. Epidemiological studies indicate that a large proportion of the population does not meet the current recommendations regarding the practice of physical activities. Although the efforts of government agencies, the sum of information is still insufficient to determine the incidence of this disease and share the risk factors associated with it the Brazilian population, such as sedentary. Aimed thus characterize the population of diabetic residents and registered by Health Program (FHP's) from Paracatu city – MG- Brazil in the level of physical activity and other factors associated . For this we applied the IPAC long version 8 and food frequency questionnaire adapted for intake of caffeine in 274 diabetic patients registered by the (FHP‟s) from Paracatu city, data were analyzed by Statistics Packaege Social Science - SPSS version 14.0 . Results: The diabetics studied are characterized with 49% elderly, 58.2% married and 75.37% do not work out, 78.36% live with up to two SM and 73.13% are illiterate. The total of the four areas of Physical Activity, they are presented 68.29% active. For the leisure domain showed high levels of physical inactivity when compared with other studies (89.92%). 66.41% are overweight or obese and even with high numbers could not correlate with BMI levels of AF. It could not be verified and correlation between levels of physical activity with smoking and drinking caffeine. We conclude that high rates of illiteracy and low-income sample urgently requires strategies for health promotion focused on education. It also suggests that planning for AF's and occurring caffeine consumption compatible with the research presented so that the benefits of AF can be achieved successfully. In Brazil, there is also has a solid base of data on the prevalence of low physical activity level for the population and are especially scarce the study about the profile of physical activity for diabetics.
