Resumo: | The canine visceral leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease caused by Leishmania genus parasites, transmitted by insect vectors of the genus Lutzomyia. The parasite lives in domestic and wild animal reservoirs, affecting humans accidentally. In Paraná, the first cases of visceral leishmaniasis in dogs were identified in 2012 in Foz do Iguaçu, and since then, studies show the spread of the disease in the region, having been identified the first human case in 2015. To develop strategies to fight a disease, should be understood man's behavior on these, as well, based on appropriate concepts, to reduce the chance of acquiring it. In addition to social factors, leishmaniasis requires the understanding of environmental problems related to deforestation processes, sanitation, occupation of rural and urban areas and its implications. The objective of this study is to analyze the knowledge about Canine Visceral Leishmaniasis and the links and relations between breeders and dog protectors with their animals, as support for the development of preventive measures in combating the desease in Foz do Iguaçu. The qualitative and quantitative research indicated the need to involve breeders and dog protectors as active subjects in the educational and preventive process, turning them into information multipliers. |
