Resumo: | This study intends to analize the social franchising entrepreneur’s role as a mediator between headquarters guidelines and local context pressures for strategy formation. This study was made in different units of an international Non Profit Organization, taking its guidelines as a control element to assure comparability among cases, since their philosophy, mission and guidelines are the same, althought they do have some independence. A multiple case study was conducted in seven units (four in Europe and three in Brazil) to investigate the following variables: a) guidelines from the headquarters, b) social and ambiental local context, c) social entrepreneur profile and d) strategy formation. The main method of data collection was semi structured interviews and the data were treated through content analisis and triangulation with documental resources. The study results showed that all the variables influence strategy formation, but in different degrees: the headquarters guidelines are applied, but they do not determine strategies; the local context influences strategies in the sense it shows opportunities for action; the social entrepreneur profile represented the biggest strenght in strategy formation, because strategies were usually related to criativity, opportunity view, risk and incertainty avoidance, network and previous experiences, among other characteristics. |
