Resumo: | This dissertation aimed at digital technologies, such as social networks, smartphones, cloud computing, internet of things, are becoming the Innovation System (IS) of the Brazilian banking sector. The financial sector has often been at the forefront of technological innovations, however, it is now observed that in addition to the adaptation of traditional companies to innovations, new companies are emerging that are willing to bring changes to a hitherto traditional and regulated sector. In order to achieve this objective, a theoretical review was carried out covering two theoretical aspects of the sociotechnical theory of innovation: innovation systems and functions of the innovation system. A qualitative, exploratory and descriptive case study with transversal cut was carried out. The data were collected through 11 interviews with representatives of traditional companies, new companies and public and private institutions of the IS of the Brazilian banking sector also the consultation and analysis of 99 documents. In this sense, the work sought to identify the main actors of the Innovation System of the Brazilian banking sector and brought a historical contextualization of the technological innovations in this sector, showing that factors such as inflation and the Brazilian territorial dimensions have made the Brazilian banking sector one of the most technologically advanced in the world. The analysis of activities that directly influence the development, diffusion and use of technological innovations, the so-called SI functions proposed by Hekkert et al (2007), and the identification of how the technological transition process is transforming the Brazilian banking sector there is a virtuous cycle with positive interactions among the various IS functions of the sector analyzed in this study. It is possible to observe the existence of entrepreneurial activities, network activities, mobilization of financial resources, orientation to research by companies and public and political initiatives in industry. However, it was possible to observe that the concepts of Innovation System are not widely diffused in the Brazilian banking sector, which raised doubts regarding the network performance and cooperation activities. The results showed that some institutions of the IS of the Brazilian banking sector apply the assumptions of the SI when seeking to approach with other actors for the exchange of experiences and strengthening of the sector. However, such initiatives are dispersed, punctual, do not follow a pattern and rely on low participation of universities, regulatory institutions and policies, which could encourage the development of more innovative activities |
