Resumo: With the objective of studying the connections between the organizational and human dimensions of companies, this thesis sets its emphasis on competencies. Despite technological as well as organizational and human resources being recognized as parts of organizational competencies, the interaction oftheir dimensions is still rarely dealt with in the Brazilian literature. Therefore, the present thesis investigates, in the context of product technology and innovation, the links between processes/routines and managerial competencies underlying the dynamics of innovation. In order to achieve such objective, a theoretical reference related to competencies and capacities, both at the organizational and individual levels was elaborated, resulting in an integrated analytical and conceptual model. Through this model the interaction between processes/routines and managerial competencies of project team leaders for performance inonnovation of Electrolux do Brasil – Unit Guabirotuba, Curitiba-PR was investigated, in the period between 1998 and 2011. In order to study these relationships, a longitudinal cross sectional multilevel and multimethod study took place. Using multivariate statistic techniques and regression analysis, the power and magnitude of the constructs were observed, evidencing the interaction between the organizational and individual levels of the company. The qualitative analysis of the evidence, on the other hand, obtained through interviews, observation and document surveying, allowed for the deepening of the presence of associations between levels and how it came to be. It must be pointed out that multiple projects were used in this study to relate the managerial role of individuals in project teams to technology development and product innovation. Therefore, this work examines the connection between organizational and individual dimensions focusing on innovation. It can be concluded that the interaction between these dimensions is molded by the organizational level (processes and organizational routines), which defines the borders at the individual level (leader and specialist members competencies, organized in project teams)
