Resumo: | This work makes an analysis of the types of strategic responses used by a higher education private institution in an institutional context and considering the strategic positioning adopted in the period between the years from 2,003 to 2,007. The present study develops the aspects and concepts of the institutional theory, strategic organization and positioning and the strategic responses answering to institutional pressures. It integrates the concepts, creating a relationship of cause and effect of the institutional context in which the institution is involved. The work begins with the general concepts and literature review, highlighting the environment and institutional context, specifically the Brazilian educational system and particularly, Brazilian higher education with its organization and categories, as well as the process of regulation and evaluation applied by the Ministery of Education (MEC). It also presents the concepts of institutional theory, strategy and business strategic positioning and responses. At last, a conceptual basis incorporating the concepts of institutional theory, strategic positioning and strategic responses is built up. A qualitative approach research was conducted, which hás been developed through a study of cases in a higher education private institution in Curitiba, conducted through unstructured interviews with the directive and management departaments of the company. The main objective was the reading of the reality involving the strategic direction and management, and the reactions of this strategic relationship offered by the institution in an institutional context. It is concluded presenting the considerations and the main strategic responses identified in the research, besides some recommendations for future deepening studies involving other approaches inherent to the theme. |
