Resumo: One of the great problems of hospital management in Brazil is the attainment of administrative, economic and financial sustainability that enables patients and users to meet their needs from the perspective of them and other stakeholders. This study is part of the study of the role of the internal resources of a hospital organization under the lens of the Resource Based Vision (VBR), as organizational skills are perceived in the formulation of plans and resources that strengthen strategies that allow the development of Dynamic capabilities that support competitiveness and sustainability in the hospital health care market. To do so, it uses the methodology of case study to understand how the competencies of the HMJ hospital unit in the city of Jaraguá do Sul / SC are recognized, recognized for the production of good health services, both outpatient and inpatient. It is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research that seeks to understand the consolidation of the organization's competences in the hospital health services market. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, documentary analysis and content analysis. Based on the analysis of the data collected versus the theoretical reference used for the study, hospital management can be understood as a context where the competencies of HMJ are consolidated, resulting in the ability to provide health services to their clients in a personalized and agile way , Taking into account the locality and region and different profiles of consumers. Finally, it is concluded that the learning from the experience of the HMJ in the health service model and the competencies developed from this business are concentrated in the capacities of its internal resources and in the strategy of partnerships in solving problems. Therefore, the competencies developed by the HMJ to act with competitiveness in the hospital health sector are not unique and exclusive, but differentiated, seeking the sustainable competitive advantage from the managerial decisions and the unfolding of resources. The study made it possible to identify deficiencies and problems related to hospital management, contributing to the discussion on the subject in the light of the organization's competencies, making it possible to identify the strategic resources to meet the HMJ objectives.
