Streszczenie: This dissertation addresses the different boundaries constructed in the discourse of Moysés Vellinho (1901-1980), as well as the boundaries that historical science itself traversed during his career as a historian (1940-1980). Our work is dedicated to a deeper analysis of the historiography produced by Vellinho throughout his career in History, while he was active in various institutions and literary circles, both regionally and at a broader level. The study of the author's works is justified by his regional, national, and international prominence, having occupied different social positions throughout his career, from historical associations to higher education. We understand his work as influential to the historical production of/in Rio Grande do Sul, given his insertion in different spaces throughout the years 1940 to 1980. The approach adopted emphasizes his discursive construction regarding the formation of Brazil/Rio Grande do Sul, constructs of identity and alterities converted into differences of a hierarchical tone. In this way, we focus on his discursive strategies, working both with what was said and exploring what is implicit in his narrative. Our broader objective concerns understanding Vellinho's discursive construction, perceiving the discursive, institutional, and orientational affiliations that permeated Vellinho's writings, as well as their resonances. Thus, this study focuses both on the content of Vellinho's discourse and on its form, construction, operationalization, and the interests that permeated it. We used as sources works produced by Vellinho, namely Capitania d’El-Rei – aspectos polêmicos da formação rio-grandense (1964); Recortes do Velho Mundo – notas a lápis (1970); and Aparas do Tempo (1981). To understand these aspects in depth, within the complexity of the author's writings, we used categories from discourse analysis, especially the studies of Eni Orlandi, as well as analytical tools related to language, proposed by Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht, and categories and elements of historical understanding from Michel de Certeau. We were thus able to understand, analyze, and learn about Vellin's discourse based on connections and distances with peers, affiliations with discursive currents and biases of interpretation, and also the objectives and instruments mobilized by Vellin in his historiography.
